Suffragette

'Suffragette' follows the women who were willing to lose everything in their fight for equality in early-20th-century Britain and the right of women to vote. The stirring story centers on Maud (played by Carey Mulligan), a working wife and mother who comes to realize that she must fight for her dignity both at home and in her workplace. Maud's life is forever changed when she is secretly recruited to join the U.K.'s growing suffragette movement. Galvanized by the outlaw fugitive Emmeline Pankhurst (Meryl Streep), Maud becomes an activist for the cause alongside other brave women from all walks of life.

The early efforts at resistance were passive but as the women faced increasingly aggressive police action, the suffragettes become galvanized – risking their very lives to ensure that women’s rights would be recognized and respected.

Suffragette stars three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep as well as Academy Award nominees Carey Mulligan and Helena Bonham Carter, and is directed by BAFTA Award winner Sarah Gavron. And it is sure to be a major contender at this year's Academy Awards race.

The movie is rated PG-13. It runs for 106 minutes. Here is the official site: focusfeatures.com/suffragette .
