Bright Days Ahead

Marion Vernoux directed this sophisticated French drama(French: Les Beaux Jours).

Caroline (Fanny Ardant; '8 Women', 'Confidentially Yours') has retired, at last. A new life lies before her: time to take care of her children, of her husband, and – above all – herself. She soon comes to realize that this new freedom is synonymous with boredom and idleness, especially when she receives a membership to her neighborhood’s senior club as a birthday present.

Reluctant at first, she decides to take the plunge. Oddly enough, she meets great people there, starting with the young computer science teacher (Laurent Lafitte; 'Little White Lies'), who is far from insensible to her charms. Caroline will gradually take control of her life again and live a second youth taking a new lover, living new experiences, breaking the rules, not doing what’s expected of you. Who said that retirement was the beginning of the end and not a new beginning?

The movie runs for 1 hour 34 minutes. Here's the website of the movie: tribecafilm.com/brightdaysahead

Transcendence

Johnny Depp stars in 'Transcendence' as Dr. Will Caster, the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him.

However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed—to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and best friend Max Waters (Paul Bettany), both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can…but if they should.

Their worst fears are realized as Will’s thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him.

'Transcendence' is Wally Pfister's debut directorial venture.

The movie is rated 'PG-13' for sci-fi action and violence, some bloody images, brief strong language and sensuality. It runs for 1 hour 59 minutes.
