Spielberg's Magic!
War of the Worlds, the Spielberg-Tom Cruise
reinvention of the classic H.G. Wells alien-
invasion saga, laid waste to all rivals, grossing
$64.5 from Friday to Sunday and an estimated
$77.6 million over the full 4-day holiday weekend,
bringing its 6-day total to $113.2 million.
Interestingly, Spielberg's biggest movie so far was also about aliens, E.T.
which had taken $432 millions in 1982. His combined movies have taken
